Sea Cadets and Sea Scouts: The Corporation coordinates a programme of visits, talks and other training activities, particularly for sea cadets and sea scouts in the region. Working with various local partner maritime authorities, organizations and companies, youngsters are introduced to aspects of the maritime world, with a particular emphasis on safety on the water. Besides Trinity House itself, visits are regularly arranged to the Port of Tyne Control Room, South Tyneside College's Marine Safety Training Centre and the Tynemouth RNLI station.
All Newcastle upon Tyne Trinity House staff who assist with the Education and training programme have undergone the requisite CRB checks and are approved to work with young and vulnerable persons.
Please be advised that the listed buildings of Trinity House do include steps which may present some difficulties to our less mobile visitors.
For more information about the programme, please contact the Education & Training Warden.

School Groups: The House also encourages school visits, where the children, working in small supervised groups, undertake the “Explorer’s Challenge” - a successful activity quiz, incorporating elements of history, art, English and mathematics, developed in association with the Newcastle City Council Area Education Outreach Officer and designed to complement the national curriculum. A charge of £2.50 per child is made, with no charge to accompanying teachers and assistants, subject to a minimum charge of £25. For schools in the Newcastle upon Tyne Council area, some limited funding may be available to off-set this charge or the cost of travel. All necessary stationary is provided by the House on the day, but a briefing paper for teachers is available in advance of a visit on application.
